Cabin Timber

When buying a log cabin getting to see a sample of the wood they use will allow you to see what type of knots are in the wood, now all trees have branches these are shown as knots in the timber, if this is used any of the support timbers or logs which have been processed from the outer layers of the tree will have knots in the timbers.

If the cabin is made with this type of wood it is more likely to shrink and the knots may leaving ugly holes allowing the wind and rain to penetrate, whereas the better quality timber has been harvested from further into the tree trunk known as the heartwood is more solid and again more resistant to the weather conditions.
